Ultimate Hot Mulled Cider
Ingredients
Mulled Cider Base:
1 quart apple cider
3/4 cup brown sugar
25 whole cloves
4-5 cinnamon sticks
1 handful of white raisins (optional, for added sweetness and flavor)
1 orange, sliced
1/2 tsp allspice (optional)
1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
Spiked Option:
1/2 cup Bacardi dark rum, or 3/4 shot per serving
Additional Ingredients:
2-3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice (for brightness, optional)
1/3 cup Burgundy wine (optional, for added depth)
Instructions
Prepare the Mulled Cider Base: In a large pot, combine the apple cider, brown sugar, cloves, cinnamon sticks, white raisins (if using), orange slices, and optional spices (allspice and nutmeg).
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally to help dissolve the sugar and infuse the spices into the cider.
Strain the Cider: After simmering, strain the cider to remove the spices, cloves, and fruit. You can discard these or keep a few cinnamon sticks and orange slices for garnish.
Optional Spiking and Final Adjustments: If spiking, add Bacardi dark rum to the pot, or pour 3/4 shot of rum into each mug before adding the hot cider.
For added brightness, stir in the lemon juice.
If you prefer a richer flavor, stir in the Burgundy wine.
Serve: Pour the hot mulled cider into mugs. Garnish with a fresh slice of orange, a cinnamon stick, or a clove-studded orange slice for extra visual appeal.
Enjoy Warm: Serve immediately while hot. The flavors are rich, warm, and perfect for a cozy night.
