Parisian Hot Chocolate

This French hot chocolate is rich, thick, and best enjoyed in small, decadent sips. Using high-quality chocolate with a high cocoa content (around 70%) will make all the difference.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 2 tsp powdered sugar (optional, for added sweetness)

  • 5 ounces high-quality dark chocolate, 70% cocoa, finely chopped

  • 1/2 tsp instant espresso powder (optional, enhances chocolate depth)

  • Whipped cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk and Cream: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, and powdered sugar (if using). Heat until small bubbles form around the edges, but avoid bringing it to a full boil.

  2. Add Chocolate and Melt: Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate and espresso powder. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and thick. If needed, return to low heat briefly to ensure all the chocolate melts, but don’t let it boil.

  3. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into small cups, as it’s very rich. Top with a dollop of whipped cream for an extra touch of indulgence.

  4. Enjoy: Sip slowly, savoring the intense, velvety flavor of the chocolate. This Parisian hot chocolate is best enjoyed fresh and warm.
